Problem Suppliers

I am in the clothing retail bussiness.We have a large supplier base from whom we buy merchandise from. Although we have given ours suppliers our Quality Manuals,have factory visits,institute intervention strategies and send them monthly quality reports that clearly state our standards time and again we receive merchandise below standard that contravenes set standards.What else should one do to ensure these suppliers tore the line.

It's tough dealing with problem suppliers. Most likely these suppliers don't have skilled people to address your needs. If you don't have the financial leverage, it may be very difficult to have your supplier make changes.

You have to make it difficult for them when you encounters the same repeating errors. Have them send people to your location. Review the errors at your business location. Have them front the bills for their business travels.

Get detailed corrective actions from them. Have them use the 8D Process to solve their problems. Conduct regular follow up meetings on the defects and make sure they are completing their actions. Ask for documented evidence from them.

If the supplier doesn't make progress, then take your business away from them. Get your management to buy in to this.
