A process engineer is responsible for many different assignments with regards to the production floor. The process engineer sets up and introduces new manufacturing processes.

A business process engineer becomes an expert with regards to production equipment. They understand how to operate, change the settings, and optimize the equipment.

Another of the process engineer jobs is to write procedures in a simple manner that operators can follow. These procedures detail the specific instructions to produce quality product. In addition, the process engineer uses his tools to create process and product specifications. This assures the processes produce quality product.

A process engineer is normally given a set of processes, equipment and / or a department under their control. Depending on the company, a process engineer may supervisor people in that department.

A process engineer reduces manufacturing cost. This includes evaluating new materials, new processes, and new equipment. Reduction of the costs includes cycle time reduction. This means decreasing the time for equipment setup and improving equipment output.

To become a process engineer, you need an engineering degree. These engineering degrees include mechanical, industrial, chemical, ceramic, electrical etc. The required degree depends on the company and the position.
